What To Expect

For Worship

At Emmanuel Baptist Church, we believe that how we choose to do our corporate worship is vital and must be rooted in the Scriptures. We believe that God sets the expectation for how he should be worshipped, and we are not left to make up our own innovations for worship in order to be relative. Our worship services are not designed around a certain style of music.

Because of that, we seek to broadly apply the principles of the regulative principle established in the Protestant Reformation. These principles are simple: Our corporate worship seeks to create an environment that is simple in style and that encourages congregational participation through singing, praying, and reading Scripture.

For the Message

Every Lord’s Day gathering includes a time of preaching from the Bible. We believe the Bible to be God’s Word – our guide for all faith and practice. Our preaching is Christ-centered and expositional, which means we are not seeking to preach in order to entertain nor pick our favorite topics while ignoring harder issues. Preaching is one of the primary means by which the church is equipped and built up into Spiritual maturity. Therefore, our preaching is rich in biblical reflection and seeks to apply the truths of Scripture to our everyday lives.
You should be able to find a Bible available at the welcome table or in the seat backs in front of you. As you listen, consider how you might need to be shaped by the truth you are hearing.

For the Table

Jesus told his followers to observe what is called the Lord’s Table or Communion. We agree with the reformers that a mark of a true church is the Preaching of the Gospel, the discipline (membership) of the church, and the proper use of the ordinances of baptism and communion. Therefore, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper weekly on the Lord’s Day. If you are a follower of Jesus who has followed Jesus in Baptism and is a member in good standing at a like-minded church, we invite you to observe with us the sacrifice of Jesus in our place for our sins.

FAQs

When do we meet?

  • Our Equipping Classes for all Ages—9:15–10:15 on Sundays
  • Corporate Worship—10:30–noon on Sundays

What should I wear?

You will see a lot of variety in the dress at Emmanuel. We want people to be honest, real, and emphasize Christ.

How do you keep children and students safe at Emmanuel?

  1. All leaders of children and students undergo a background check.
  2. All children (birth through 5th grade) must be checked-in at our check-in desk where they will receive a dated nametag and their parent will be provided a corresponding dated security sticker.
  3. Presentation of this security sticker by a parent is required in order to pick up children from birth through 2nd grade.

Why do most kids and students come into the main worship gathering?

  • We believe that God enjoys the diversity of multiple generations, ethnicities, and cultures gathering together in worship of Him. We also believe parents are the primary disciplers of children so they should model corporate worship before them. Therefore during our worship gatherings, we want as many of our people to gather together as possible.
  • We offer childcare from birth through 2 years of age during Sunday morning worship services. In addition, we provide a family room with live-stream of the worship service for families that need a space to allow their children to unwind while still being present on Sunday mornings.

Do you have a ministry to…?

  • We believe the gospel changes people, so we keep things simple and focused. This means we don’t have a dedicated ministry for every conceivable group. Instead, we seek to minister to every group by declaring and displaying the gospel to one another through diverse worship and community.
  • We do offer some limited connection points for varying stages of life at different times throughout the year.

Why is Emmanuel a Baptist church and what do you believe?

  • Emmanuel is confessional church whose membership is made up of believers in Jesus, baptized by Immersion after conversion, who are committed to the Gospel presented in the Scripture. This is the essence of what it means to be Baptist.
  • We are members of the Southern Baptist Convention because we agree with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), support the North American and International Mission Boards, and value sound theological education.

What is your financial accountability like?

  • We have a team of lay people, who assist with our finances. This team is made up of both members of our eldership and our members. They see all bank statements, lead the church in large expenditure decisions, oversee audits, and count all income. All financial statements are public and available upon request.
  • The pastors never see any giving records, touch income, or know what an individual in the church gives.

What is the next step to become part of Emmanuel?

  • If you are interested in learning more about Emmanuel or joining our church, please attend a 4 week Foundations Seminar typically held in January, May, & September each year. Our pastors are available to speak with you about membership, church, and what it means to follow Jesus.
